It’s a given that my contributors and I cherish our children deeply. We glow with pride at their achievements and share in their sorrows. Our greatest wish is to see them happy, and we’ve grown and transformed because of them.
Countless websites showcase beautiful and heartfelt narratives about this love, often featuring them here. However, more frequently, we find ourselves needing to air our frustrations about the less glamorous sides of motherhood.
Here, we don’t condone calling another mother selfish or questioning her commitment to her children. Just because you’re thrilled to spend the entire summer with your kids doesn’t mean everyone else should feel the same excitement about three long months with theirs.
Motherhood isn’t one-dimensional; there’s hardly a universal template for it. Life is rarely black and white, and we all have our moments of weakness—those times we’d rather forget. The last thing we need is judgment for those instances.
Not in this space.
