Dear Kids,

You bombard me with questions constantly, and while some are straightforward (like how do you love us all equally?), others are downright perplexing (what’s on the other side of life?). I find myself answering your queries all day long—it’s practically my job now! But today, I have a few questions for you…

Questions for You

Why is it that you can construct elaborate towers with perfect balance, yet somehow struggle to aim in the toilet?

What’s the deal with the nightly bedtime battles? Is it really so terrible to snuggle into a cozy bed and drift off to sleep?

Why do you leave a trail of sticky fingerprints on the walls as you ascend the stairs? I mean, there’s a banister for a reason—please use it!

Why do you pine after a friend’s toy, only to lose interest the moment it’s yours?

And why, oh why, must you pick your nose and smear the evidence on the walls? If you can’t find a tissue, your sleeves are just as good—trust me!

Why do you suddenly develop a thirst the instant I pour myself a drink and take a moment to sit down?

And the wails when it’s time for a pedicure—really? It’s just a little nail trimming, not torture!

Why can’t you all agree on a movie that you love at the same time?

Why the fuss about brushing your teeth before school? Do you really enjoy that morning breath?

How is it that you adore ketchup yet find tomato sauce “gross”?

Why can’t you ignore your siblings’ taunts? If you’d just let it slide, I promise they’d stop!

Why do you wrestle on the couch knowing it usually ends in tears? Do you enjoy the chaos?

What’s with the volume control? I CAN HEAR YOU!!!

Why do you gravitate toward the most annoying books ever written? I mean, reading about Transformers and Cars makes me want to skip pages and poke my own eyes out!

Why must you leap into every puddle you find?

And do you really need to say my name a dozen times before you ask a question?

Lastly, why is it that you can race around the house endlessly like little tornadoes, but when it’s time to clean up, you become a limp noodle?

I just want to know, kids—why???
