Each night, I hold my eldest child close, gently rocking him in my arms. During these moments, I can’t help but reflect on how much he has grown. He barely fits in my lap anymore, transforming from my baby into a little boy. Time seems to slip away, I ponder. Wasn’t it just yesterday when he nestled perfectly into my embrace?
Sometimes, I gaze at him, trying to envision what he will look like as an adult. Each time, I’m astounded by how quickly he is changing. He is no longer that tiny infant. I often tell him, “You’re getting so big! Why can’t you stay my little baby forever?” He responds with a simple, “But I have to grow, Mommy. I can’t stop it.” I understand, my sweet boy, but I wish we could pause time.
These moments that feel endless—filled with both joys and challenges—often lead me to exclaim, “I can’t handle this!” These are the very instances we often overlook.
They will not last forever. I want to treasure each second while he is still young—still needing me, still wanting my affection and care. One day, he will be grown, independent, and I will find myself yearning for those cherished days gone by.
There will come a time when my home is devoid of the joyous sounds of children playing. The laughter and occasional chaos will fade, leaving behind an unsettling silence that longs for the past.
I have yet to experience the feelings associated with watching my children grow up, leave for college, or start families of their own. However, I can tell you that I both anticipate and dread these milestones more than anything else.
For now, I will fully embrace these valuable and fleeting moments. Time is unpredictable, and soon enough, I will be left with nothing but memories of these days.
