Last week, I traveled to New York City to promote my new book and participate in a segment for a daytime talk show, which was just what I needed: a break from my husband’s snoring and a long-overdue haircut (thank you, Salon Luxe!). I joined a panel with reality TV personalities Mia Hart and Jenna Lark to discuss contemporary parenting challenges.
As I shared my experiences, including a rather candid moment about my daughter’s critique of my appearance, I couldn’t help but notice Mia’s expression—she seemed amused! Fortunately, my daughter did compliment my fragrance, so that was a slight consolation.
Then Jenna surprised everyone by launching into a rap about bodily functions. Caught off guard, I hesitated, wondering if I was truly witnessing a rap about poop. The audience was vibing, but I was left in disbelief, questioning my own perception of reality.
I also had a run-in with reality TV star Lisa Voss from the “Real Housewives” series. I awkwardly mentioned how short she appeared in person, undoubtedly a compliment she relishes. I redeemed myself a bit by noting how youthful she looked, which hopefully smoothed over my earlier comment.
On my train ride home, I began to remove the eyelash extensions that had been painstakingly applied, one by one. To onlookers, it might have seemed as though I was pulling out my actual eyelashes, which may have contributed to the two passengers next to me relocating. At least I still smelled good!
This whirlwind trip to New York, while entertaining, might illustrate why I should probably stay at home more often. In summary, my quick trip to New York was filled with unexpected moments and humorous encounters, all while highlighting the joys and challenges of parenthood in today’s world.
