Having children can dramatically alter one’s sense of modesty; I know this firsthand. The experience of giving birth—complete with the inevitable bodily functions—certainly stripped away any lingering shyness I might have had. I now find myself engaging in behaviors that could be described as unabashedly bold. Over the past few weeks, I’ve taken to approaching unsuspecting patrons in bookstores, where I now seem to have developed a reputation as “that enthusiastic lady.” My daily routine includes visiting at least one bookstore to rearrange display setups, all in an effort to draw attention to my book. Armed with a few Sharpies, I sign copies of my book that I’ve not been invited to autograph, and I quite literally thrust my book into the hands of anyone who crosses my path.
