Transforming Your Blog into a Book

When I initially launched my blog, Home Insemination Kit, my intention was to create a digital keepsake for my children. As someone who rarely notes milestones like first words or steps, I knew I couldn’t rely on my memory alone. I often neglect to print photos, and despite my affection for crafting, traditional scrapbooking never appealed to me. Thus, I turned to blogging as a creative outlet to document our lives—the beautiful, the challenging, and everything in between.

As 2008 came to a close, I became determined to convert my blog from the previous year into a book. The process was quite cumbersome; the platform I chose (blurb.com) was not compatible with my blogging service at that time. I had to painstakingly import each photo and entry manually, which took an eternity. Nevertheless, for around $50, I obtained a hardcover copy of my blog. I meticulously designed each page, mixing text and photos in various configurations. The software allowed for full customization using any fonts available on my device.

While I cannot provide an unqualified endorsement of the service—customer support was non-existent, the binding on my first book was defective and had to be replaced, and the system experienced frequent crashes—it was ultimately worth the effort. The completed book has reignited my passion for writing as I head into 2009.
