If you’ve polished off your entire Advent calendar, you’re certainly not alone!
Christmas is a season meant for togetherness, generosity, and reveling in the joy it brings. It’s an opportunity to appreciate our blessings, to experience the wonder of the holidays through our children’s eyes, and most importantly, to indulge in Advent calendar chocolates. Yes, all of them. In just one day!
Advent calendars serve as a delightful countdown to Christmas, typically starting on December 1st and running through the four Sundays leading up to the holiday. Each calendar often features tiny flaps or doors that unveil festive holiday scenes, but let’s be honest—most of us are only focused on the chocolate stashed behind those doors.
Chocolate-filled Advent calendars are a fantastic tradition, allowing us to enjoy a piece of chocolate for breakfast every morning for 25 days straight. Ideally, that’s how it should go. However, this requires a level of self-control that many of us simply lack, especially when faced with the temptation of 25 chocolaty treats.
Without locks on those doors, it’s quite probable that the chocolates won’t last the entire 25 days. In fact, some Twitter users have humorously confessed that their calendars were emptied before they even made it to the first day of December. It’s comforting to know that many of us (ahem) share this struggle. Unfortunately, this means my kids’ Advents may be in jeopardy since mine met an early demise this year. “Gee kids, I wonder why there are no chocolates behind doors number 11-15. Maybe you’ve upset Santa?”
Take this lady, for instance; she managed to devour hers before Thanksgiving. Quite the move!
Let’s face it: it’s been a challenging year. If sneaking away to consume 25 chocolates in one sitting while hiding in our closets brings us even a tad bit of joy, then why not? This woman is my new idol for her chocolate-loving spirit.
Perhaps those of us struggling with our Advent calendars should consider adding “only eat one chocolate per day” to our New Year’s resolutions, right alongside “eat healthier” and “be more patient.” It’s worth a shot, at least.
