Get excited! The beloved stars of ‘The Facts of Life’ are set to reunite for a festive holiday film. For many, this iconic show remains a cherished after-school staple, where viewers enjoyed the adventures of Tootie, Blair, Jo, and Natalie, not to mention the ever-busy Mrs. Garrett. Now, nostalgia is in the air as the original cast comes back together for a new holiday movie titled You Light Up My Christmas.
Lisa Whelchel, Mindy Cohn, Kim Fields, and Nancy McKeon will reprise their roles in this Lifetime production. Kim Fields, who is also serving as the movie’s executive producer, affectionately referred to her co-stars as her “sisters.” She expressed her joy in having them join her for this special project. “We’re sisters,” Fields remarked. “We always have a blast when we’re together, and the holidays are all about family and fun. So when the idea for You Light Up My Christmas came up, I invited Lisa, Mindy, and Nancy to join in for some fun Christmas cameos, and I was thrilled they all eagerly accepted.”
A Bit of History
For those who may not know, The Facts of Life was a spin-off of Diff’rent Strokes, featuring the talented Charlotte Rae as Edna Garrett, the matriarch of the girls’ boarding school. The show chronicled the friendships, romances, and antics of the girls for nine seasons from 1979 to 1988, culminating in their adult lives running the shop Over Our Heads. It was quintessentially 80s and filled with heartwarming moments.
“It’s been wonderful to collaborate again and to have the ladies contribute their insights on their characters, from wardrobe choices to inside jokes for our fans,” Fields shared with PEOPLE. “We even named the ice-skating rink in the film after our dear friend, Charlotte Rae, who passed away last year at the age of 92. We truly are a family, and working on something new together has been fantastic!”
About the Movie
You Light Up My Christmas is inspired by actual events and tells the story of a young woman who returns to her hometown, centered around her family’s Christmas factory, just before the holidays. Upon her arrival, she finds the once-vibrant town has become gloomy and lifeless. The narrative unfolds as she reconnects with a former love interest to reignite both their romance and the town’s festive spirit, promising to spread light once more.
This holiday movie is part of Lifetime’s annual “It’s a Wonderful Lifetime” programming event, which kicks off on October 25 and runs through Christmas Day, with the film set to air on December 1. Viewers can anticipate 30 new holiday-themed movie premieres, providing a much-needed dose of joy during the often-stressful holiday season.
